An abandoned house was completely destroyed by a fire in Greene County Thursday afternoon.

According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson and Scranton fire departments, deputies and Greene County Ambulance responded to the structure fire at 1119 L Avenue at 1:29pm. Sheriff Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio, when he arrived on scene the house was on fire from the basement through the attic of the two-story home. 

Williams says the home is a total loss and the fire started in the basement. Due to the extensive damage, Williams notes the cause is undetermined, but was deemed accidental in nature. No one was in the house at the time of the fire and a neighbor reported it. Williams adds, no one was injured in the incident. According to the Greene County Assessor Real Estate webpage, the home belongs to Eddie and Christy Rivera.
