Greene County scored 25 points more than it has averaged, but the Rams still came up short on Thursday night in Des Moines vs. the Hoover Huskies, a Class 5A program, by a final of 55-48. Hoover improved to 2-11 with the non-conference win while the Rams fell to 0-12.
Both teams showed a lot of offense early as the Huskies led 18-16 after one quarter. It was 29-25 Hoover at halftime and 43-35 at the end of quarter number three. The largest Hoover lead was 12 points late in the third. The Rams whittled away and got to within four points at 52-48, but that was a close as coach Tyler Westhoff’s team came.
Hoover banked in two of the six three-pointers they made and they unofficially went 20 of 54 from the floor and nine of 24 shooting free throws. The Rams unofficially were 17 of 49 from the field with four three-point baskets, and they made 11 of 16 free throw attempts.
Senior Daija Bates had 22 points for the Huskies, more than double her season scoring average, and senior Adrianna Jarrett added 12 points. The Rams were led in scoring by senior Izzy Bravard with a career best 19 points, and junior Eliza Carlson added 11, also a career best. Junior Sadie Wilson had eight points and sophomore Brianna Babben added seven.
The Rams play a girls JV/varsity twin bill at home in the middle school gym on Monday, Jan. 27 with Kuemper Catholic (Carroll). The varsity game will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
Greene County plays boys’ basketball on the road tonight and tomorrow. It’s a trip to the middle school gym in Woodward tonight vs. Woodward Academy. There will be no radio broadcast. Tomorrow, coach Chris Nelson’s team goes to Gilbert to face Grandview Christian (Des Moines) at 12 p.m. We will broadcast the Saturday game on KG98 and stream it on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
