Snow conditions led to two recent vehicle incidents in Guthrie County.
According to the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, at about 10:25 a.m. January 17th, 32-year-old Tracie Anne Burnett of Bagley was driving a Pontiac G6 south on Wagon Road, or County Road P28. Burnett lost control of her vehicle due to the snow-covered roadway, crossed the centerline and entered the east ditch. Her vehicle then continued down the steep ditch where it struck some trees. Burnett was extricated from the vehicle and was transported by Panora Emergency Medical Services to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines for possible serious injuries. She was cited for failure to use a seatbelt, and the vehicle was totaled.
At about 3:30 p.m. Monday, 79-year-old Betty Lou Simmons of Guthrie Center was driving a Chevrolet Silverado north on Frontier Road. Due to the snow covered roadway Simmons lost control at the intersection of 260th Street. Her vehicle entered the west ditch where it struck a no passing zone sign. Simmons was uninjured. The vehicle sustained $3,000 damage, and there was $250 estimated damage to the sign post.
