Icy road conditions led to two rollovers last week in Guthrie County.
According to the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, at about 7:30 p.m. January 15th a 16-year-old Casey resident was driving a Dodge Dakota westbound on 275th street, east of Lost Trail, when he lost control going down the hill and went into the north ditch. The front passenger side made impact with the ditch, causing the vehicle to rollover and turn 180 degrees, coming to a rest facing east. The Deputy stated the road surface was completely ice covered, and the driver showed no signs of impairment. The vehicle was totaled, and no injuries were reported.
The next day 34-year-old Nelson Orlando Amaya of Jefferson was driving a Buick Century westbound on 252nd Street at about 12:06 p.m. when he attempted to negotiate the curve north onto Sycamore Avenue. Amaya lost control on the icy roadway and entered the west ditch, struck a road sign and continued into a ravine where the vehicle rolled onto its top. The vehicle was totaled and $100 in damage was estimated to the sign post. Amaya was not transported for medical treatment.
