There’s snow on the ground and much more likely on the way, so the Dallas County Secondary Roads Department asks motorists to be patient as they clear the way for travel.

County Engineer Al Miller points out that his crews typically plow between 5 a.m. – 5 p.m. during snow events, and they prioritize the paved routes before the gravel. With that in mind, Miller emphasizes the importance of motorists driving to the current conditions, especially if the road is still snow-covered. “I would just encourage everybody to understand if you’re on a county road that our county crews are not operating 24/7. You may see the state out in the middle of the night on Highway 141 or 169 treating roads, but we’re going to be getting started in the morning. And just slow down, realize bridges and sheltered areas a lot of times can have slippery conditions and may sneak up on you. So slow down, drive like it’s winter, and be safe out there.”

Miller also says it’s important to give snow plows plenty of space when you come upon them. He adds, passing one is not a good idea because the road in front of them is likely much worse than behind. Whenever snow events affect the listening area, be sure to tune into Raccoon Valley Radio for the latest road conditions and cancellation and delay information.
