The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.

The Council approved a special election to fill a vacant council seat. The seat is for two years to fill out the remaining term for Matt Gordon, who was elected as mayor. The Council heard from several residents, and some advocated for Sean Sebourn. However, the Council decided to have a special election due to there being at least two people, including Sebourn, interested in the vacancy.

The Council approved committee appointments as presented and set January 28th at 5:30pm for a public hearing on the plans, form of contract and cost estimate to replace a roof at 100 East State Street. Additionally, the Council approved to replace two filters at the water plant for an amount not to exceed $75,000, and also requested notification if the cost goes over that amount.

Finally, the Council heard a quarterly update from Police Chief Mark Clouse. He said officers responded to 719 calls for services from October to December, 2019. Of those, there were 208 calls for public service, 65 animal calls for dogs and bats, and 251 charges and citations issued.
