U.S. Representative for Iowa’s Third District Cindy Axne (D) comments on the country’s Iranian conflict following the missile strike launched against two U.S. military bases in Iraq earlier this week.

The attack happened the same day the House of Representatives reconvened, and Axne says they received a briefing from the Secretaries of State, Defense, the CIA Director, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on the current situation with Iran Wednesday, following President Donald Trump’s ordered drone strike that killed top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani last week.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced this week that the House will introduce and vote on a war powers resolution to limit the President’s military actions regarding Iran. Axne comments on the bill’s progress, “I’m not sure if that resolution will come this week. Things are moving at a fairly quick place so we’re going to have to address things as things are in movement, but if that does happen I have yet to see it. As always I’ll read what I am getting before I decide to vote. I want to make sure that we’re keeping our country safe and that we are upholding the constitution and ensuring that the powers are working to support the American people.”

Axne adds she believes top officials should never treat warfare with a social media post, referring to a tweet President Trump posted Sunday declaring the posts as valid notification to Congress for military action against Iran.
