A Des Moines man was arrested on several charges early Saturday morning, following a chase with officers that started in Adel.
According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, at around 1:15 a.m., a black 2006 Ford Expedition driven by 29-year-old Kyle Lee Waddell was reportedly sliding on the road due to the weather conditions and was noticed by an officer with the Adel Police Department. The officer initiated a traffic stop at the corner of South 14th Street and Hyvue, after discovering the registered owner of the vehicle had warrants for his arrest out of Polk County. As the officer got out of his car to talk to the suspect, Waddell reportedly started driving away again. The pursuit then went west on Old Highway 6. A Sheriff’s Deputy deployed stop sticks on the road, which successfully slowed the vehicle. However, the suspect kept driving and allegedly nearly struck a Deputy and Iowa State Patrol Trooper. The vehicle became immobilized when an officer used a pursuit intervention technique (PIT), ending the chase at around 1:50 a.m. in the 16000 block of Bear Creek Road.
Waddell was arrested and taken to Dallas County Jail. He was charged with interference with official acts – dangerous weapon, a class D felony, two counts of assault on persons of certain occupations – use or display of weapon, a class D felony, eluding, a serious misdemeanor, and driving while barred, a simple misdemeanor. He was also cited for careless driving, failure to obey stop signs, improper use of lanes, and no financial liability coverage. He has since been released from jail after posting $15,000 bond. A passenger in the vehicle was taken to the Adel Police Department for an interview and then released. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
