A Chicago woman died on Interstate 80 in Dallas County early Saturday morning, after a two-vehicle collision.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, at around 12:18 a.m., a 2019 Dodge Journey driven by 26-year-old Stephanie Galicia of Chicago, Illinois was travelling on the interstate near mile marker 107, just east of the L Avenue exit between Earlham and DeSoto. She lost control in the snowy conditions and hit the left lane guard rail and came to a stop. Her passenger, 51-year-old Carmen Benitez of Chicago, got out of the car. While doing so the vehicle was struck by a 2019 Cadillac Escalade driven by 38-year-old Ali Elride of Queens, New York. Benitez was killed in the collision, and Galicia was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines with unknown injuries. Elride was reportedly uninjured.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and Earlham Police Department assisted at the scene. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
