One of the bigger projects going on right now at the Perry Municipal Airport involves the fuel station upgrade, which is part of the overall expansion of the airport’s facilities.
Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson says the project includes adding a second 10,000 gallon tank to the existing one, infrastructure for the entire fuel depot, and a new card reader. The City Council recently approved the plans and specifications for the new fuel station, and let the bids to potential contractors. The bids are due by January 29th, and will be considered at a public hearing scheduled for February 3rd at 4 p.m. The project will be paid mostly through a grant received last year from the State of Iowa.
Peterson emphasizes the importance of the upgrade in the larger scope of the airport expansion, saying much of what the City hopes to accomplish is tied to an increased fuel capacity. “So we’ll be able to buy more fuel at a time, which helps reduce our costs on transportation. So hopefully being able to have more fuel on hand, just in case you know there’s issues with transportation. Also with more larger aircraft coming to the airfield, it’s important to have more fuel on hand for us. So that’s going to go out to bid here soon, and should be put in early spring, I would think.”
