Starting 1-6 on the season and 0-5 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play is not what Greene County boys’ basketball head coach Chris Nelson had in mind when the season began. Because of the slow start, the coach was asked if any personnel changes are imminent. “One good thing is we’ve not had any injuries of any significance so far. We’ve had some illness, but not much in the way of injuries. We have some guys at the lower levels playing better and we’re still observing and evaluating that, but right now what we’ve got is what we’re going to go with.”
The coach added he may switch up lineups depending on match ups, but he isn’t planning on bringing anyone up from the freshman or JV squads at this time. Addressing the issues so far, the coach added, “Really, it’s just a matter of being more consistent with whomever’s on the floor, all five guys for four quarters.”
The Greene County teams open the 2020 portion of the schedule on Jan. 7 at Nevada. That girl/boy doubleheader can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage starts at 5:45 p.m. with the girls playing at six o’clock and the boys to follow.
