It’s winter time, and the Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department is encouraging young kids to participate in a new basketball program.

“Tot Shots” is for first and second graders on Tuesdays and Thursdays from January 6th-23rd at the Greene County Community Center after school dismisses until 4:30pm. Participants will learn the fundamentals of basketball. JPRD Assistant Director Nathan Kral says they will transport the kids from Greene County Elementary School to the community center for the program, where parents can pick them up afterwards. He talks about why they are starting a basketball program for younger kids.

“Just trying to get everyone involved, get them started early, get them to know the game, and see if they like it, and stick through their elementary, middle school and high school years.”

The cost for community center members is $10 and non-members it is $15. The deadline to register is January 6th.
