Registration is still open for the Perry Parks and Recreation Indoor Youth Soccer League and Boys and Girls Youth Basketball League, but the window is closing soon.

The co-ed soccer league has three age divisions, for under 6, U8, and U10, with the youngest kids able sign up for the age group with which their most comfortable. Games will be played Thursdays at 6 p.m. in the McCreary Community Building from January 23rd through March 5th, with practices scheduled by individual coaches. As for the basketball leagues, there are boys and girls divisions for grades 3-4 and 4-5. Games will be played Saturday mornings at the McCreary Center from January 18th through February 22nd. There will be some travel required for games in Adel and Van Meter.

Assistant Parks and Rec Director Becky Halling encourages kids to get involved in either or both of the leagues, saying they’re effective ways for them to learn the sport and stay active. “Every child, if they can, should participate in these leagues. I think that they’re fun, they’re exciting. They’ll learn just basic fundamentals to their sport that will help carry them into middle school and high school. And if anything, it’s a way for them to get out and make some new friends, or you know just be active! Get them to do something on a Thursday night.”

The cost to sign up for the indoor soccer league is $35 per player, and the basketball league is $25 for rec center members and $35 for non members. You can sign up at the McCreary Center or online. The deadline to register for basketball is December 30th at 8 p.m., and for soccer it’s January 2nd by 5 p.m. To learn more about this and other topics involving Perry Parks and Rec, listen to today’s and Tuesday’s Perry Fareway Let’s Talk Dallas County programs at RaccoonValleyRadio.com.
