The U.S. House recently made history with their vote to impeach a sitting president, the third time in the nation’s history.
Almost down party lines, the House voted to impeach President Donald Trump on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Iowa’s Fourth Congressional District Representative Steve King voted against impeachment. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio it was a solemn atmosphere when the House voted to impeach.
“There’s a good number of Democrats that I’ve known for a long time. We joke and laugh with each other, going back and forth through votes and under those circumstances. That wasn’t going on Wednesday of the impeachment vote. The people were having a hard time looking at each other in the eye, and it was a time we should’ve been wishing each other a ‘Merry Christmas’ and instead it more or less was ‘Okay, we’re going to go ahead and do this to the president, even though there’s no constitutional basis for it.”
Though impeachment went through the House, King believes it is a foregone conclusion that the Senate will not vote for impeachment. King says there is evidence from the Obama Administration that involves Hillary Clinton and others, which is being investigated by U.S. Attorney General William Barr.
“The emails that were mismanaged and classified information that went out on her public server and the cover up they did of Hillary Clinton. Then they transitioned from covering up Hillary Clinton to surveilling Donald Trump when he was a (presidential) candidate. It’s essentially admitted in July of 2016.”
King believes Congress is going through impeachment to discredit President Trump and throw up a shield so the Democrats can blur the investigation of themselves and use it as a last ditch effort to “avoid the wheels of justice.” King adds, the American people deserve to know all of the truth in this matter.
