Roland-Story (Story City) won Heart of Iowa Activities Conference girls and boys basketball games over Greene County last night. The games were in the middle school gym in Jefferson and were the last December games for the Rams, who fell to 0-7 in girls’ basketball and 1-6 in boys. Friday night’s games were heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
The R-S girls are ranked seventh in Class 3A. They improved to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the conference with a one-sided 76-11 victory. The Rams are 0-5 in the conference with an average score of 75-20. Senior Izzy Bravard had six of Greene County’s 11 points. Twelve players scored points for R-S.
The boys game saw R-S win 75-54 to improve to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the HOIAC, while the Rams fell to 1-6 and 0-5. The Norsemen led 20-15 in the second quarter, then went on an 11-1 run, and they ended the half with a 39-23 lead. The advantage grew to 29 points before reserves finished it out. R-S made 11 goals from three-point range in the first three quarters of the game, and finished with 11. The Rams had a season best 10 three-point goals with five of those in the fourth quarter.
Senior Carter Morton had 15 points and sophomore Bryce Stalder a career-high 13 to lead Greene County. The Norsemen had 11 players get on the scoreboard led by senior Dylan Ihle with 16.
Greene County’s next basketball games are on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at Nevada.
