mamma-mia

The Perry High School Drama and Music Departments are excited to announce the show chosen for this year’s spring musical, as well as the cast.

The chosen production is “Mamma Mia!” which spins a story of a mother and daughter and three potential fathers, all set to the music of 1970’s pop group ABBA. Director Randy Peterson says they chose the show because they knew a lot of the students would be excited about it, and that it would be familiar for the public. The first part of the reasoning bore fruit, as Peterson says they had 35 students audition, which is higher than usual. He’s also happy to say that they were able to include all of them in the production in some aspect.

The cast includes many actors audiences may be familiar with, including Ainsley Marburger who was recognized as an Outstanding Performer in a Principal Role at the Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards for her portrayal of “JoJo the Who” in last year’s production of “Seussical the Musical.” Marburger will play Donna, the titular mother in the show. Other principals in the cast include: Bella Nath as Sophie, the daughter; Zoe Meyer and Bridgette Murphy as Tonya and Rosie, Donna’s best friends; and Sebastian Hernandez, Jefry Gonzalez, and Jayson Chavez as Sam, Bill, and Harry, the potential fathers of Sophie.

Peterson says he’s excited for the show, but adds there’s a lot of work to be done between now and when it opens on April 3rd and 4th. See the full cast list below.
