Parents and grandparents flooded Greene County Elementary School Friday afternoon for a festive tradition that mixes in reading.

The “Jingle Into Reading” event started with everyone singing a reading-related song to the tune of “Jingle Bells.” Then several elementary teachers did a skit to the song “12 Days of Christmas.” Kids and adults then separated into groups and read to each other. Greene County School District Reading Specialist Julie Neal says the original intention when this event was established seven years ago was to get more parents into the building.

“This is to build more reading and more parent involvement with the reading process. It’s nice to see them interacting with other kids with books (and) hopefully it will encourage them to read over the (winter) break as well.”

This event marked the end of the 2019 part of the school year. The Greene County School District is on winter break until January 6th.
