The Greene County School Board discussed several items during its work session this past Wednesday.
The Board received an update on the new high school and career academy project. The School District Owner’s Representative Sam Harding said the windows have been installed in the career academy. Translucent windows are in parts of the career academy and will be installed in the learning stairs of the academic wing and the top of the gym. Crews are also building the reinforced area of the locker rooms that will be used as a tornado shelter. August 1st is the anticipated date to have the project completed, minus the auditorium.
The Board also heard an update on the plans to convert the current high school into a middle school. Plans include phasing in a sprinkler system and heating and cooling to parts of the building over a couple of years. The budget is anticipated to be up to $5 million from the Secure an Advanced Vision for Education (SAVE) funds. Final plans are still being developed with OPN Architects.
Finally, the Board heard about the recent FFA National Convention from some of the Greene County FFA members.
