PCM (Monroe) senior Regan Freland scored 19 of her game-high 32 points in the first quarter and the visiting Mustangs ran away from Greene County in girls’ basketball on Tuesday night in Jefferson by a 67-32 final. Ireland was the lone PCM player to score in double figures and she nearly matched her 20 points per game scoring average in the opening stanza. The Mustangs improved to 2-2 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play and 4-3 overall. The action was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
The Rams were led in scoring by senior Izzy Bravard and sophomore Breinna Habben, each with 10 points. The Rams dropped to 0-6 on the season and o-4 in the conference. The Rams made a season high six three-point goals, including banking in a pair of long-range shots.
The Mustangs put up an incredible 80 shots from the floor, making 29, including six of 27 from three-point range. They were three of seven from the foul line. PCM had only 10 turnovers and they were not whistled for their first foul until more than half of the third quarter had been played. The Rams went six of 16 on three-point shots and 12 of 41 overall with 27 turnovers. The Rams were two of four on free throws.
