As we travel deeper into the winter season, the likelihood of snow increases by the day. With that in mind, Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn reminds residents of the City’s snow ordinance.
Per the City code, any time there is more than half-an-inch of snow accumulation, the ordinance goes into effect. During that time, vehicles are not allowed to be parked or left unattended on any City street, alley, or public parking lot until the snow event has stopped and the right-of-way has been cleared. Vaughn says anyone in violation of the ordinance will be cited, and if the snowfall is severe enough the vehicle could be towed at the owner’s expense. He adds, the City typically gives the public a warning that the ordinance could be activated, but points out it’s also up to residents to watch the weather.
“So if you see a forecast (for snow) – everybody does a pretty good job now of predicting that snow coming – get those vehicles off the street. We try to notify all our local media so they can get that information out to you, so you kind of have a heads up that we’re declaring a snow emergency (and) to get those vehicles off (streets). But you know it’s really up to you to try to watch that weather forecast to avoid those citations.”
