Perry Lutheran Homes will be hosting their final Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support Group meeting of 2019 this month, though it will be a little earlier than usual.
The group normally convenes the last Tuesday of every month, but with the holiday season upon us, PLH decided to move it up a couple weeks. The meeting will be held Tuesday, December 17th at 3:30 p.m., and as always it will take place in the large meeting room at the Perry Public Library. During this month’s meeting, the group will continue viewing the four-part educational DVD series, “The Savvy Caregiver.” The program is designed for families of someone suffering from memory loss, and serves to enhance the skills and reduce the stress of the caregivers.
The support group will as always be led by PLH Chief Care Officer Deb Koelln, who is a certified dementia practitioner and master trainer with a long history of dealing with the illnesses. In addition to the film, Koelln will discuss topics that people caring for those that have Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia regularly face, while also addressing the physical and emotional needs of caregivers. She will also offer advice for engaging and enriching the lives of loved ones as the diseases progress. There is no cost to join and no registration is required, and attendees will also be able to learn, share, and connect with others who are in similar situations.
Anyone with questions can reach out to Koelln by phone at 515-465-5342, or by email at dkoelln@perrylutheranhomes.org.
