Recycling in Greene County continues to see changes.

Jefferson Public Works Director Dave Morlan says at the recent Greene County Recycling Agency meeting, it was decided that the communities surrounding Jefferson will only use a central drop-box for recyclables. Jefferson city crews will pick up the other communities’ recyclables and transport them to Boone County Recycling at the Boone County Landfill for free, while the towns will pay the City and the County for the services. Grand Junction and Paton will continue with curbside pick up until the end of December.

The City of Jefferson will continue to provide curbside pickup for recycling and there is a central drop-box location near the water plant at the intersection of Cedar and Perry streets. The City will be charged $90 per ton to transport just Jeffersons recyclables to the Carroll Recycling Center. Morlan notes a second dumpster has been ordered for the drop-box location for residents to dispose of cardboard. He says there is a need for a second cardboard dumpster, due to the high usage of the current dumpster.
