The second shotgun season opens this weekend in Iowa.
Greene County Conservation Director Dan Towers says the first shotgun season took place from December 7th-11th and Department of Natural Resources splits up the two seasons up for a reason.
“It’s about 50/50. About half the hunters, 60,000 hunt the first season, and 60,000 the second season. So that does a good job of dispersing hunters over a period of time and not crowding everybody in the same patch of timber all at once. So the DNR does a good job of doing that.”
Towers reminds hunters they must wear a minimum of a solid blaze orange vest. However, Towers recommends also wearing a blaze orange hat for a better identifier. The second shotgun season runs from December 14th-22nd.
