The Heart of Iowa Activities Conference basketball season began at home for the Greene County Rams with a pair of one-sided losses in the middle school gym in Jefferson vs. South Hamilton (Jewell). SH won 56-24 in the girls’ game and 71-24 in the boys’ contest. Both games were broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
Izzy Bravard had 11 points for the Greene County girls as they made only five of 38 foul shots, but were 12 of 16 from the free throw line. Caleigh Hewett, Hallee Feaker and Aneesa Balderus each had 11 points for the Hawks. SH led 30-10 at halftime. The Rams had 22 turnovers. SH was 7 of 21 on free throws with 16 turnovers, and they went 22 of 65 from the floor. SH is now 2-2 and the Rams fall to 0-3.
The Hawks dominated the boys game and were up 38-18 at the half and the continuous clock (35-point rule) went into effect late in the third quarter. Cade Balvanz led 11 SH players who scored with a game-high 17 points. SH was 28 of 59 from the floor and 11 of 17 from the foul line with 16 turnovers.
The Rams had 11 points from Carter Morton and no one else scored more than four. Greene County made nine of 40 shots from the field and seven of 14 from the free throw line, while turning the ball over 19 times.
