The high school wrestling season began for Greene County and second year head coach Zach Beekman on Tuesday night in Ogden. The Rams won dual meets vs. PCM (Monroe) and Ogden, and lost to Van Meter/Earlham.
Ram senior Will Hansen went 2-1 at 160 lbs. and he was asked how he thought the Rams looked. “I thought as a team we looked pretty tough. We’ve got some tough kids who are improving every day and looking tough.” The Rams forfeited at 182 lbs. and 195 lbs. on Tuesday, but some of the guys were not down to a weight they will eventually wrestle at. Raccoon Valley Radio asked Hansen if Greene County could eventually cover 13 of the 14 weight classes. “We could eventually have 13 because I think we’ll eventually fill 195, but I don’t know if we’ll ever get an ’82 pounder.”
Next up for Greene County is Saturday’s Dallas Center-Grimes Mustang Invitational starting at 10 a.m. Hansen said the competition there will be good. “It’s definitely one of the toughest tournaments of the year, so we’ll get to see where we’re at. Everyone will get some great matches.”
