The U.S. House Judiciary Committee held its first hearing in the impeachment investigation into President Donald Trump Wednesday, but Congresswoman Cindy Axne (D) says there are other important things that need to be done by the end of the legislative session.

Representative Axne says Congress recently extended its session to end on December 20th in order to pass appropriations and avoid a government shutdown, following the longest shutdown in U.S. history last December, “That’s why we extended this. We’ve got some really important work to do and over the next few weeks the judiciary committee’s going to be holding their hearings. I’ll be monitoring those hearings and we’ll see what happens by the end of the year, I don’t know if that’s a guarantee that anything will be at that place where we could take a vote on it. I’m just going to follow what’s happening like I always do and when it’s time to come up for a vote I will be there to do my job.”

Axne says her other priorities are to finalize the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement before the end of the year, extend biodiesel and renewable energy and energy efficiency tax credits, and eliminate a health insurance tax that’s set to go into effect on January 1st.
