It was a big night for DC-G Girls’ and Boys’ Basketball on Tuesday. The Girls’ came into the game with a 2-0 record, coming off of blowout victories over North Polk and Winterset, while the Boys’ were set to open the season.
Adam Jones’ DC-G Girls’ Team didn’t have the big spread on the scoreboard versus Carlisle, but his team did manage to, narrowly, take down the Wildcats, 43-42, to pick up their third straight win to start the year. Jordan Cunningham was fouled with 2.4 seconds to play and the game tied. Cunningham was able to hit one of two free throws to seal the win for the Fillies.
For the Boys’, after their 8-14 season in 2018-2019, Joel Rankin and his Mustangs came to play and dominated Carlisle on Tuesday. A year ago, Carlisle escaped with a 63-56 win over DC-G, and the Mustangs were sure to see that history didn’t repeat itself. In the season opener for the Mustangs, Dallas Center-Grimes easily handled the Wildcats, 61-23.
Another Girl/Boy Doubleheader is set for Friday in Grimes when DC-G welcomes Newton. Girls’ tip off is set for 6:15pm, and the Boys’ will take the floor at 7:45pm.
