With snow anticipated to come through Jefferson this week, city crews are prepared to treat the roads.
Jefferson Public Works Director Dave Morlan says they have four dump trucks with snow plows, two pickup trucks and a payloader that clear roads when there’s a snow event. He points out, the City’s snow ordinance goes into effect anytime there’s at least one-half-inch of accumulated snowfall. When the ordinance is in effect, parking is prohibited on streets, alleys and City-owned off-street parking until the snow stops falling and the roads are cleared from curb to curb.
Morlan talks about why it’s important for vehicles to be off the road when the snow ordinance is in effect.
“If we go around a vehicle a couple of times and snow and ice starts getting packed down, then you wind up with a hump in the road that’s going to be there until spring. It’s really important to have safe travels to get the snow off the streets all the way to the curbs.”
Morlan adds, they apply a sand and salt mixture to the streets for better traction and help melt snow and ice. Whenever you see a plow out, motorists are reminded to give them plenty of room to clear the roads.
