A somewhat wetter winter than normal is possible this year, according to the State Climatologist.
As fall isn’t quite finished State Climatologist Justin Glisan says it’s a bit difficult to predict precipitation and temperatures for winter, but right now an above-normal chance of precipitation has been predicted for much of the midwest from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s three-month outlook that was issued on November 21st. Glisan comments on this outlook, “What we’re seeing right now, November-December-January for precipitation is a slight signal for slightly wetter than normal conditions. But again you have to consider that meteorological winter and this time of year is the driest part of the year. So an above average probability of wetter-than-normal conditions, you have to take it with a grain of salt.”
Temperature-wise, the NOAA’s three-month outlook currently shows an equal chance for above, below, or normal temperatures this winter. This week shows chances of snow and other precipitation, listen to Raccoon Valley Radio for weather updates.
