The holiday season begins this week with Thanksgiving, but for those in Perry and the surrounding area, it won’t officially start until the day after.

This Friday is the annual Lighted Holiday Parade and Holiday Extravaganza in Perry, organized by the Chamber of Commerce. Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti encourages everyone to attend the unique event, whether you’ve been to every one or if it would be your first. “So obviously with it being called a ‘lighted parade,’ you can guess that the parade floats will be lighted in some way, or most of them will be. So a lot of effort goes into these floats, just like any parade float, but especially with the lights. So it’s really fun to see with it being at night, it’s dark out, it’s winter time. And then the lights just kind of bring that added warmth and joy, especially with the holiday season!”

Pasutti says the line-up will begin at 6 p.m. at the corner of 2nd and Otley streets, and the parade will commence at 7. She adds, parade entries will be judged and eligible to win prizes, so participants are encouraged to step up their decorating game. She also points out that since it will be dark out, throwing candy is discouraged. Immediately following the parade, attendees are invited to La Poste for the Holiday Extravaganza. Pasutti says the festivities will include music performances from local choirs and bands, as well as an appearance by Santa Claus. Both events are free and open to the public.
