The Iowa High School Football State Championships wrap up today inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. The Class 2A title game has OABCIG (Ida Grove) vs. Waukon. Both teams are 12-0 entering the championship contest. OABCIG won Class 2A District 9 and Greene County was second and the Rams finished 9-2 overall.
Special teams were strong for the Rams in 2019. Kicker Cael Fisher was 45 of 52 kicking extra points and two for five on field goal attempts. Punters Carter Morton and Nathan Black combined for an average of just under 30 yards per punt.
The return game was very strong, led by Carter Morton. He had three punt returns and two kickoff returns for touchdowns. Morton averaged 47.5 yards on six kickoff returns and 25.8 yards on 15 punt returns. Black also ran a punt back for a TD for a total of six punts and kicks resulting in Greene County touchdowns.
The Rams finished the season number 7 in the final Class 2A polls and number 8 in RPI. They advanced to the quarterfinal round of the playoffs, the first time that’s happened in the eight seasons playing football as Greene County.
