Yard waste site at Daubendiek Park

Now that most of the snowfall in Jefferson has melted, city crews will continue to pick up leaves.

Public Works Director Dave Morlan says crews will use the street sweeper to pick up leaves along streets and curbs. However, he reminds residents that a city ordinance prohibits depositing leaves from your property into the curb and street. Morlan explains what happens if leaves get into the storm sewer system.

“They’ll plug up the storm sewers and they’ll freeze down, and that creates a problem if there’s any sort of liquid moisture. If we don’t get them picked up, the snow plows will come along and they usually wound up right back up on everyone’s yard.”

Morlan points out that residents can openly burn yard waste, including leaves, anytime of the year on their property. Additionally, the City’s yard waste dump site at Daubendiek Park is also free for residents to use anytime.
