Now that it’s wintertime in Iowa, there’s one area of concern that we may forget about: mailboxes.

The Jefferson Post Office reminds anyone who has a mailbox to make sure there is a clear path to the mailbox and that snow and ice is also cleared around it. According to the United States Postal Service, last year 18,684 mail carriers were injured due to falling when delivering mail. If a carrier feels it is unsafe to deliver mail due to the aforementioned hazards, then mail won’t be delivered.

Anyone with questions can contact the Jefferson Post Office at 515-386-2061.
