This past Monday, Scott Heitland, Head Coach of the Dallas Center-Grimes Football program spoke with Raccoon Valley Radio about his team’s tough loss in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs at Lewis Central last Friday.  The Mustangs dropped the contest to the highly talented Titans, 12-0, in a hard fought defensive battle.

DC-G went 9-2 on the season, following a 1-8 season just a year before.

Heitland mentioned that he’s losing a number of key players to graduation, but that next year’s team will have a solid core to rebuild from with numerous talented returners.

Heitland mentioned that the locker room was full of emotion after the loss.  Heitland said he told his team and assistant coaches that he was extremely proud of them and their season, and thanked them for their hard work, dedication, and a gridiron season of fun.

Heitland went on to mention, that for many of his Seniors, they wore pads for the final time.  He added that football, unlike other sports like baseball or basketball, aren’t played in “pick-up” style after graduation.  So for many of his boys, this was the final time they would suit up on the field.

Over the season, DC-G picked up signature wins over Norwalk, Glenwood, Carroll, and a first round playoff victory over Harlan.
