A one woman show is coming to History Boy Theatre Company tonight in Jefferson.

Boone resident Diana Hillmer is presenting “I Like Mamie.” It is a re-imagining of Mamie Eisenhower’s campaign stop in Boone during her husband, President Dwight Eisenhower’s re-election campaign in 1956. Hillmer says her interest in Mamie started in 2017 when controversy arose about ownership of Mamie’s birthplace in Boone. The building and museum were also closed for a time that year.

Hillmer says through her research, she gained respect and enjoyed learning about the former First Lady.

“I had been a writer throughout my life and this was a story I felt should be shared (and) ‘How best to do that?’ I thought. And it seemed to me that bringing Mamie to life, it just seemed to make sense, it just seemed right.”

The show will include stories about Dwight, along with her personal and political life, and Hillmer says she’ll throw in some scandals from that time period as well. The performance will be at 7pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, and the tickets will be available at the door.
