Starting tomorrow, the Perry Public Library will begin their annual winter reading program, which Children’s Librarian Suzanne Kestel describes as: “like summer reading, but cooler!”

Similarities been winter and summer reading include: there are programs for adults, teens, and children; there’s no cost to participate, but registration is required; and there will be prizes awarded to those that read certain amounts of books, as well as random drawings for grand prizes. However, Kestel points out there are a few key differences between the seasons for the children’s programs. “It’s a little more low key, because I can’t do programming because the kids are in school, but we still want to encourage them to read and get prizes. So I decided to make it really simple this time, and so when they hit every 10, 20, 30, 40, (and) 50 (books read), they will either get to pick two things out of the treasure chest or they will get to select a book.”

Kestel adds, the grand prizes will be drawn in February, and for the kids that includes a pizza party and a pair of “alien parties.” To learn more about the Perry winter reading program, listen to yesterday’s and today’s Perry Fareway Let’s Talk Dallas County programs at RaccoonValleyRadio.com.
