In less than a week, there will be some new members of the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School Board, though who those individuals are rests on the shoulders of voters.
With that in mind, allow us to introduce you to the three candidates vying to fill the vacant seat on the Board, which will fill the remaining two years of a four-year term. Bart Banwart is technically the incumbent for the seat, though he’s seeking the shorter term. He is the current Board Vice President and has served the last eight years. He asks people to vote for him because he already has an established relationship with teachers and administrators, and he’d like to continue advocating for them.
One challenger for the seat is Sue Brown, who works for the Iowa State Police Officers Council. She says that has given her experience in negotiating contracts, the state budgeting process, and lobbying the State Legislature. She felt the District could benefit from her knowledge, which is why she decided to run for the Board and why she encourages voters to choose her. Finally, Kirk Feher is a combat engineer veteran who now works for the State of Iowa Insurance Division. He decided to run for School Board because he says he understands the importance of community involvement in a small town. He asks voters to select him because he feels he can be a voice for each of the communities in the District.
