Tonight several communities are having their respective Beggar’s Night, including the City of Jefferson.
Police Chief Mark Clouse reminds motorists to be extra aware of kids and families out in costumes who will be walking between parked vehicles and they may run across streets. He recommends that trick-or-treaters travel in groups instead of by themselves. Another area of concern is strangers luring kids into their vehicles. Clouse points out if kids encounter someone they don’t know and looks suspicious, use “stranger danger” tactics.
“Never get into a vehicle with anyone, I don’t care how much candy they are offering you. If you are approached by someone or a vehicle that’s making you feel uncomfortable, go to the nearest house and knock on the door and tell that person that you need some help.”
Clouse reminds parents and guardians to inspect their child’s candy and discard any that are unwrapped, in case they have been tampered with. He adds for adults attending Halloween parties where alcohol is served to plan ahead and make arrangements for a designated driver.
Jefferson’s Beggar’s Night is from 5-7:30pm.
