Some, but not all of the goals for the 2019 Greene County High School football team went by the wayside on Friday night in Ida Grove. The 35-13 loss to OABCIG for the Class 2A District 9 title spoiled a perfect record and stopped the Rams’ regular season winning streak at 11 games. On the bright side, the Rams are in the Class 2A playoffs for a second straight season. The task at hand is to win a playoff game for the first time in the eight seasons playing as Greene County.

It’s been 2009 since any Ram football team won a playoff game. The team from 10 years ago won 20-17 in Charles City in a Class 3A first round game. The 2006 team won its first 11 games and advanced to the semi-finals inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, and playing in the Dome has been a goal for the 2019 Rams. That journey begins on Nov. 1 just off Douglas Avenue in Urbandale at Des Moines Christian High School. A relatively new facility with an artificial turf field awaits as 8-1 Greene County faces 8-1 DMC. The Rams are number eight in the 2A RPI and the Lions are number 9. The winner meets either number 3 Algona or number 16 Central Lyon/George-Little Rock in the quarterfinals on Nov. 8.

This Friday night’s contest starts at 7 p.m. with coverage at 6 p.m. on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
