A Jefferson-based business is building a new facility in Boone.

Midland Power Cooperative recently held a groundbreaking ceremony at its new administrative office and power line training facility located at 2005 South Story Street. The company first announced its expansion in October of 2018. Vice President of Business Development and Member Services Norm Fandel says having a new facility will allow them to reach a majority of their members in the Boone area, and provide a space for their management company with Enovus.

“Using this new company to manage cooperatives. This is an option for cooperatives to maintain their status, keep their own identity, keep their boards intact. And just have the management group come and take care of a lot of the top areas: engineering, billing, IT, HR and management services.”

Fandel adds, they have several employees commuting from Story and Boone counties, and the new facility will help them out. Additionally, the location will address future employment expansion. The building will be energy efficient with geothermal heat pumps and high efficiency air-conditioning units, LED lighting with occupancy sensors and roof insulation exceeding minimum code standards. Some of the components will be made by B&D Manufacturing in Scranton.

Midland Power serves more than 12,000 member businesses and households. The Jefferson and Humboldt offices will remain open and Fandel points out some employees from the Jefferson location will move to the new building in Boone.
