A reminder that tonight several kids and families will be dressing up in Halloween costumes for the annual Trick-or-Treat Around the Square in Jefferson.

The festivities begin at the Greene County Community Center with a Halloween Party from 4-5pm. There will be several games and activities, along with free candy, for kids ages two-years-old through 5th grade. Then from 5-6pm trick-or-treaters can get more free candy from businesses and organizations around the downtown square.

The Jefferson Public Library will be handing out candy and doing a skit called “Old MacDonald Had a Dragon” in the basement of the library from 5-7pm. The Greene County School District Music Department wraps up the evening with a free Halloween-themed concert in the middle school gym from 7-8pm. Attendees can hear Halloween-related songs from the 5th-12th grade bands, get bags of treats and participate in various photo-opportunities.

Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse reminds motorists to be aware of increased foot traffic around the downtown area.

“We’ve got to take extra care at the intersections, anywhere in the area, that they (children) can come out in between cars at any point. But we want them to have a good time, we want them to go home with a huge sack of candy, and we want them to be safe while doing so. So we’re all going to pitch (in) together and make that happen.”

All activities are free and open to the public.
