Greene Co Sheriff Jack Williams
Several law enforcement agencies responded to the officer-involved shooting in Stuart last week, including some from Greene County.
Some Jefferson Police Officers and Greene County Sheriff’s Deputies helped with the situation in Stuart that resulted in some Guthrie County law enforcement officials being wounded. Sheriff Jack Williams says they weren’t needed to be on the scene of the incident, but two deputies did help cover emergency calls, while the initial investigation began. Williams notes his office will continue to provide aid in other ways.
“If Sheriff (Marty) Arganbright calls and says he needs shifts covered (while the deputies are recovering) I have offered to send deputies to assist in covering open shifts.”
Williams points out complications or issues like what happened to three Guthrie County Sheriff’s Deputies and a Stuart Police Officer is something that he is constantly aware of.
“Every call we go on, it’s always in the back of your mind. You never know what’s behind that next door or what’s in the front seat of the car with the person. Especially with the mentality towards law enforcement, and especially in the bigger areas, and we stop a lot of out of county people, you just never know what’s around the next corner.”
Williams says, while it’s typical for him and his deputies to execute arrest or search warrants by themselves, there are times when extra personnel are needed.
