U.S. presidential candidate and Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar spoke at the Guthrie County Democrats’ annual fundraiser Saturday.
Klobuchar said this visit is part of her “For All of America” bus tour making stops in a dozen Iowa counties this weekend. She spoke at Veteran’s Auditorium in Panora about her Minnesota upbringing, career as a county attorney, and her accomplishments in the Senate since she was first elected in 2006. A member of the agriculture committee, she spoke about her desire to work for rural America, “The other thing about the urban-rural divide, is that no one is going to be able to cross that divide if we can’t even communicate with people in rural areas and that’s why I’m committed and I know we can do this. I used to do telecom, I know a lot about this. We can hook up with high-speed internet every single household in America by 2022.”
This was Klobuchar’s first visit to Guthrie County since announcing her campaign. Earlier this month she spoke to residents in Greenfield in Adair County. Her speech Saturday night was preceded by speeches from three Democratic candidates running for Senator Joni Ernst’s seat in 2020: Eddie Mauro, Admiral Michael Franken, and Theresa Greenfield.
