Two Fontanelle residents who were arrested for felony methamphetamine charges last February were sentenced this week.
Court documents show that through a plea agreement, 45-year-old Kevin Lee Trent and 46-year-old Jodi Lea Griffith’s original class B felony charges for possession of more than five grams of meth were amended to possession of less than five grams of meth, a class C felony. Trent was convicted and sentenced to no more than 10 years at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Oakdale, and he will be credited for any time already served in connection with this offense. He must pay over $1,000 for a fine, surcharges, and restitution for legal assistance.
Griffith’s judgment and pronouncement of sentence was deferred and she was placed on three years probation. She must pay over $2,000 in restitution, court costs, a civil penalty, and a surcharge. If all terms and conditions of her probation are completely satisfied in three years, Griffith shall be discharged from probation and be expunged of her criminal record for this case. One count of failure to affix a drug tax stamp for both defendants was dismissed, as well as any pending misdemeanors. The charges stem from a February 15th incident when a Guthrie County Sheriff’s Deputy found that Trent’s vehicle didn’t match its license plates while it was parked in the City of Casey. Trent was later found to have a suspended license, and he and Griffith were both found with meth, which they stated was theirs jointly.
