Senior Night at Linduska Field in Jefferson was a success as Greene County won 60-8 over visiting Red Oak in Class 2A District 9 football. Coach Caden Duncan’s Rams improved to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the district while the Tigers fell to 0-8, 0-4. Friday’s game was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

Friday’s win sets up a week 9 regular season finale that’s rarely seen, and that’s two 8-0 teams meeting in the last week of the regular season. Greene County will visit OABCIG in Ida Grove on Oct. 25 with the District 9 title, an automatic playoff berth, and an unbeaten regular season riding on the outcome. The Falcons won handily last night over Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) in Ida Grove. This Friday’s game will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage starts at 6 p.m. with kickoff at 7 p.m.

Senior Night saw Greene County seniors and their parents from not only football, but other Fall sports, as well as band members and cheerleaders being recognized.

The game with Red Oak saw a senior-dominated Greene County team have little trouble with a young, small in stature and small in numbers Tigers’ team. Greene County led 13-0 after one quarter and 48-0 at halftime. Reserves finished out the game for Greene County and Nathan Black scored on a nifty 36 yard punt return, followed by a Cam Miller run of four yards. It was the first varsity touchdown for both.

Senior quarterback Brent Riley threw four more TD passes Friday night to give him 27 on the season against just three interceptions and he hasn’t thrown a pick since week two. Carter Morton had two of the TD grabs with one each for Nick Breon and Will Hansen. Riley had a one yard TD run with Jaxon Warnke catching a backward lateral good for a nine yard run, and Colby Kafer scored on a run of four yards.

Greene County had 407 yards of offense to just 52 for the Tigers. Kafer led all rushers with 93 yards on 14 carries and Morton led receivers with three catches for 97 yards.

The Rams went 5-0 at home this season after going 4-0 at Linduska Field in 2018. Overall, Greene County has now won its last 11 regular season games dating back to last season.
