Iowa State Patrol Trooper Alex Dinkla, Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation Special Agent in Charge Adam DeCamp, Stuart Police Chief Dave Reha, Guthrie County Chief Deputy Jeremy Bennett, Adair County Chief Deputy Michael Algreen.
The names of the officers involved in a shooting in Stuart Thursday night have been released.
Raccoon Valley Radio previously reported that a press conference was held early Friday morning at Stuart City Hall, where Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation Special Agent in Charge Adam DeCamp notified that two Guthrie County Sheriff’s Deputies and one occupant suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds and one deputy sustained a gunpowder burn when three deputies and one Stuart Police officer attempted to execute an arrest warrant at about 10:40 p.m. at 615 Southwest 7th Street Apartment #1. The Iowa Department of Public Safety and DCI now state that the law enforcement involved were Deputy Kent Gries, Deputy Steven Henry, Deputy Jim Mink, and Officer Tyler DeFrancisco. The suspect they were attempting to arrest was 52-year-old Randall Comly of Stuart on outstanding felony warrants.
The officers knocked on the apartment door where they were met by an adult male which was not Comly. The officers entered the apartment searching for Comly when they were met with gunfire. The officers then returned fire. All those injured were transported to Des Moines hospitals. Also inside the apartment at the time of the shooting were two adult females, neither of which was injured. DCI states that more than 50 police officers, deputies, and troopers responded to the report of shots fired. Assisting agencies were able to secure the area, evacuate neighbors, negotiate a peaceful ending to the incident, and take Comly into custody. Comly is in law enforcement custody at a Des Moines hospital on outstanding warrants. Comly faces class B felony charges of terrorism and first degree burglary in Guthrie County for an August 6th incident in which he allegedly entered a Casey residence and discharged a handgun. No criminal charges have been filed related to this shooting. The investigation is still open. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
