A fundraiser is happening next weekend in support of a Churdan park project.
Felix and Fingers – Dueling Pianos will be performing at the 209 Main restaurant in Paton next Saturday. Co-organizer Libby Towers says the event includes the concert, a silent auction and a meal. All proceeds will go to the Churdan City Park improvement project. Towers points out they wanted to do a major fundraiser and after she saw Felix and Fingers perform previously in Adair, she knew this was going to be the major event her and the committee needed.
Towers says the overall project was voted on by the students of the Paton-Churdan School District. She adds, while they are going to make significant upgrades to the aging park, they will keep some equipment such as the merry-go-round. Towers says they’ve raised $50,000 and need another $15,000 to reach their project goal. She explains why she wanted to get involved with this project.
“I am invested. I have three little ones (kids) of my own. I have a strong passion for recreation and kids. So when we’re at the park and you know there’s something that can be done it just seems like somebody has to do it. So why not be that change and be that catalyst to try to bring improvements to our small town.”
Doors for the event open at 5pm, with dinner to be served from 5-8pm. The silent auction will be from 5-7:30pm and it features tickets to the Children’s Museum in Iowa City, as well as tickets to sporting events at Iowa State University, the University of Northern Iowa and Drake University. Felix and Fingers will then perform from 8-11pm. Pre-sale tickets end today for $25, otherwise it will be $30 and tickets will be available at the door. Tickets can be purchased at the Churdan Library, Encore Salon and United Bank of Iowa in Churdan.
