The Greene County School Board met Wednesday night in regular session.
The meeting started with a public hearing and approval of selling school property in Grand Junction to the City of Grand Junction for $1. It was mentioned that the school district will continue to use the two-vehicle garage where the former school building was, along with the freezer. The garage will be used as a shelter for students at the designated bus stop in case of inclement weather. The freezer is used for the summer lunch program.
The Board then approved 14 early graduation requests as presented, the first reading to a revised board policy for graduation requirements for special education students to align with a change made by the state legislature, and a first reading of another revised board policy for employee conflict of interest that outlined repremans if a district employee receives a financial gain through a procurement process with the district. Additionally, the Board approved a language services agreement with Interpreters Unlimited for English Language Learners and an agreement with North Central Consortium School for special education students with a behavior individual education plan (IEP).
Next, the Board approved purchasing $59,895 with OneNeck for new networking equipment for the new high school as an item within the established project budget. The Board also approved board policy reviews as presented and reviewed the wellness committee’s recommendations of increasing efforts for nutrition education for all grades and to review allowing students to test out of having to take physical education.
Finally, Superintendent Tim Christensen reported that the District is down 8.89 students for its certified enrollment for the school year. Last year, the District was down 29.47 students. The fraction numbers are due to special education, dual enrollment, home school, and ELL among other factors.
