A mob of people roamed the streets of Stuart last October for the Stuart Revitalization Group’s inaugural Downtown Historic Walk, and the group hopes to repeat their success with a 1960’s theme this year.

The public is invited to walk along downtown Stuart and meet some of the prominent local figures from nearly six decades ago. However, they will be portrayed by living Stuart residents and some coming from as far as Springfield, Illinois. Organizer Bob Cook says many of the reenactors are descendents of their “characters,” “Last time we really focused about some early pioneers in the community and of course it was hard. There were no relatives left of hardly any of those people, and it’s really important to me when we have the chance to have relatives portray (the individuals), that’s pretty important. They know the story, number one. I don’t have to write the script, they lived the script, they know it, and they can tell the story of their parents.”

The walking tour will start at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Stuart Depot and will then conclude at the Depot with chili and other refreshments. A freewill donation will be accepted, and Cook mentions this year he will be equipped with a portable amplifier so the group can better hear the speakers during the walk.
