Perry Lutheran Homes is now firmly entrenched in providing meals throughout the Perry community and surrounding area, but they’re asking for some support from the public.

The elder care provider recently took over serving congregate meals at the McCreary Community Building, and was also contracted by Dallas County through Aging Resources of Central Iowa to provide in-home meals. The “Meals on Wheels” program is what PLH is needing help with, both monetarily and through volunteers. Melissa Gannon, COO and Administrator for Perry Lutheran Homes, is asking for donations to help cover the $12,000 gap between what they need to provide the service and what the County is able to allocate. Gannon says any amount will help feed elderly and other homebound individuals in northern Dallas County, but points out that a $45 donation will cover a week’s worth of delivered meals for a person in need.

Additionally, PLH is looking for volunteers to help deliver the meals. Gannon says volunteers are many times the only contact a homebound person has during the week, and they’re critical to providing not only food, but smiles, warm greetings, and daily encouragement. Meals are delivered weekdays between 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., and volunteers can participate one day a week or all five depending on their schedule. To donate money to the program: you can mail a check to Perry Lutheran Homes, 2323 Willis Ave, Perry, IA 50220 and put “Meals on Wheels” in the memo; text the word “GIVE” to 515-320-8256; or click the first link below to donate online.
